One of Latitude's predecessor businesses, Australian Guarantee Corporation, was founded in the 1920s, and Latitude traces its recent history to acquisitions GE made in Australia and New Zealand. In 2015 a consortium of KKR, Värde Partners and Deutsche Bank bought the business from GE and renamed it Latitude Financial Services. Latitude listed on the ASX on 20 April 2021 under the code LFS and is headquartered in Melbourne. It says it was subject to a cyber-attack in March 2023 that resulted in the theft of personal information.
