Bankwest's home loans are the Bankwest Simple Home Loan and the Complete Variable Home Loan on variable rates, and the Fixed Rate Home Loan and the Complete Fixed Home Loan with rates fixed for 1 to 5 years. The Complete loans include the Complete Home Loan Package, which has a $395 annual fee and lets you link up to nine offset accounts with no monthly fees and add an eligible credit card with no annual fee. The Simple and Fixed Rate loans have no annual fee and a $20,000 minimum loan, the Complete loans need at least $200,000, and all four have a maximum loan term of 30 years.
The variable loans offer a 100% offset across multiple offset accounts, unlimited extra repayments and redraw. The fixed loans allow extra repayments of up to $10,000 a year, offset 40% of a linked account's balance and have no redraw during the fixed term. Bankwest also offers construction loans, with money released in stages, and bridging finance with the Simple Home Loan.
Bankwest no longer accepts new personal loan applications. In February 2022 it announced the transition of its business customers to Commonwealth Bank products and services, and its site lists bank accounts, savings accounts, credit cards, home loans and term deposits as its products.
Bankwest's home loan application covers buying a first or next home, buying an investment property, building with a construction loan and switching a home loan from another lender. Applicants confirm they are 18 or over and an Australian citizen or permanent resident. Owner occupiers could borrow up to 98% of the property value including Lenders Mortgage Insurance, although Bankwest says a deposit of around 20% is typical, saving 20% or more avoids Lenders Mortgage Insurance, and a guarantor is another option.
Self-employed borrowers, including sole traders, freelancers and business owners, usually provide business and personal tax returns, a recent ATO notice of assessment and business financial statements, and other documents may be accepted. If you have been self-employed for less than two years, a minimum of 18 months' ABN registration is acceptable where the LVR is less than 80%. Construction loans need a licensed builder, and owner builders and cost plus contracts are not accepted.
In March 2024 Bankwest announced its transition to a digital bank, including the closure of 45 branches by October 2024. To apply for a home loan you complete an online form, and Bankwest connects you with a home loan specialist who helps with pre-approval, the application and the documents needed to finalise the loan. Specialists are available seven days a week, including evenings, and there is an online application tracker.
Bankwest also accepts home loan applications through accredited mortgage brokers, who have a broker portal and one-to-one business development manager support. Bankwest describes its approach as a digital and broker offering focused on homeowners' needs.

It became The Rural and Industries Bank of Western Australia in 1945, opened its first Sydney branch in 1985 and became the Bank of Western Australia in 1994.
